The headquarters of Veliyanad Block Panchayat—which comprises the Grama Panchayats of Muttar, Veliyanad, Neelamperoor, Kavalam, Pulincunnoo, and Ramankary in Kuttanad Taluk of Alappuzha district—is located at Mampuzhakkary in Ramankary Grama Panchayat. The six aforementioned panchayats carry the pride of Kuttanad, the rice bowl of Kerala. Kuttanad, a land steeped in the history of farmers and agricultural labourers, has borne witness to countless struggles and historic events.Taking the block as a whole, the people's economy is predominantly based on agriculture, especially paddy cultivation.
